But is also a place resonant with history. This is the landing place where Maori and European settlers first met, exchanged cultures and created a new nation. It is named after a 19th century owner, Walter Clapham Mountain, a colourful and charismatic figure honoured by Maori and Europeans alike.
Today Mountain Landing is being regenerated as a premium coastal lifestyle community. A small number of superb home sites are set in a thousand acres of farmland, beaches, native bush and wildlife sanctuaries.
